Smart Glasses Go Mainstream? Meta Backs Partner With $3.5B Investment

Meta (NASDAQ: META) is deepening its hardware ambitions with a strategic move into augmented reality.

The company has quietly acquired just under 3% of eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, investing roughly $3.5 billion into its long-time XR hardware partner.

This investment underscores Meta’s push to scale its smart glasses business beyond experimental status and into mass-market adoption.

At the center of the effort is the Ray-Ban Meta line, which has already surpassed 2 million units sold since its late 2023 debut.

Backed by this momentum, EssilorLuxottica is now planning to ramp production to 10 million units annually by 2026, a goal Meta appears fully aligned with.

For Meta, the deeper integration isn’t just about growing hardware margins.

It’s about controlling a new form factor for AI interaction glasses that double as voice interfaces, image capture tools, and real-world search agents.

Meta has struggled to land a dominant device platform in the past, but this eyewear pivot is showing rare traction.

Those tracking Meta’s broader tech roadmap will see the move as a direct answer to Apple’s Vision Pro and Google’s next-gen Android XR push.

The company bets that glasses, not headsets, are the more natural on-ramp to mainstream mixed reality.

Three years ago, Meta’s wearables were side projects. Now, they’re a core pillar in its post-mobile future.

Tesla's Cars Just Got a Voice, And It's Not Siri or Alexa

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is bringing a new voice to its fleet.

The company is now integrating Grok, the AI assistant developed by Elon Musk's startup xAI, directly into its electric vehicles, turning cars into real-time conversational systems with intelligence that extends beyond standard navigation and controls.

Grok isn't a typical voice assistant.

Designed to handle natural dialogue, context, and even sarcasm, Grok can fetch route recommendations, adjust cabin settings, or summarize news by pulling live data from platform X.

And unlike cloud-only systems, Grok will run directly on Tesla's onboard hardware, allowing it to work even in areas with poor connectivity.

For Tesla drivers, this means hands-free control gets smarter and intuitive.

Grok can tie into existing systems like Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, making the interface between humans and cars more fluid.

It's also designed to process sensor data and camera feeds, opening the door for future AI-assisted navigation and safety features.

There are challenges. The AI platform has faced criticism for problematic outputs on X, prompting xAI to promise stronger safeguards before full integration.

Pricing is also an open question as Grok's standalone version costs up to $300/month, and it's unclear if Tesla's implementation will be free.

Still, this is a major leap toward making vehicles AI-native. With Grok, Tesla isn't just adding a feature. It's embedding real-time intelligence inside the driving experience.

AI Potential (Sponsored)

While headlines focus on the same overhyped AI names, a bigger opportunity is taking shape — and it’s flying under the radar.

A new report reveals 9 AI companies with real U.S. operations, accelerating revenue, and deep AI integration. These aren’t speculative plays — they’re positioned to benefit from a massive shift in how and where AI is being built.

This free guide includes:

  • A chip supplier poised to fuel U.S. AI manufacturing

  • A cloud provider set to expand under new policy changes

  • A data firm with potential government contracts on deck

The early window on these opportunities may be closing — now’s the time to see what’s coming next.

Amazon Engineers Its Own AI Cooling System to Power Next-Gen Nvidia Chips

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is rolling out custom-built cooling systems to handle Nvidia’s AI heat surge.

AWS has unveiled the In-Row Heat Exchanger (IRHX), a proprietary cooling solution built to support the latest generation of Nvidia GPUs.

Unlike conventional air systems, the new hardware plugs directly into existing AWS data centers and is optimized for dense, high-performance workloads, especially those running on Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture.

The decision marks a turning point in AWS’s infrastructure strategy.

Instead of retrofitting for liquid cooling or sourcing third-party systems, Amazon designed a solution in-house that avoids excessive floor space and excessive water use.

The IRHX enables high-efficiency AI training clusters without redesigning entire data center layouts, a speed and cost advantage that’s hard to overstate.

For cloud customers, the result is faster access to next-gen AI power.

AWS has already launched new P6e instances built on this thermal backbone, directly targeting developers training large models.

These compute racks are equipped with 72 Blackwell GPUs per node, and AWS is now offering them globally as demand for AI compute intensifies.

AWS has a long history of controlling its hardware stack.

By owning the cooling layer too, Amazon reduces third-party dependencies while pushing margins higher in its most profitable segment.

Recent Tech Movers

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is regaining ground (and benefiting from Elon Musk’s renewed focus) after Musk announced an expansion of its robo-taxi service to a larger area in Austin and plans for a San Francisco Bay Area launch soon.

With analysts like Morgan Stanley attributing $250 of their $410 price target to self-driving tech, TSLA’s autonomous ambitions could drive further upside as it scales its ride-hailing network.

AeroVironment (NASDAQ: AVAV), a key military drone supplier, gained 2% amid a broader rally in drone stocks after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered accelerated drone production to outpace global rivals.

The Pentagon’s new policies, treating small drones as consumables and streamlining acquisitions, position AVAV to benefit from increased military demand for unmanned systems.

Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS), a leader in semiconductor design software, popped nearly 5% over the past week after the U.S. eased export restrictions on chip design tools to China.

With China being a major market for electronic design automation, SNPS is set to restore access and boost revenue growth in the second half of 2025.
